Back To School

September 2009 - September is the traditional "back to school" time. Just watch the advertisement inserts in the newspapers and commercial spots on radio and television. With back to school time this year comes the increased fears of the H1N1 and regular flu viruses. This year, too, Federal economy stimulus Dollars are available to school districts so that they can upgrade technology to benefit the students.

This is a perfect time to consider eLearning initiatives. Westedge is here to tell you that the IBM Lotus Domino platform is a proven, successful hosting solution for eLearning. Database designs allow course content to be created by typical office users. Course quiz and exam forms can be created by a designer as templates and then these can be modified by office users as needed. Student progress records are updated as course content is reviewed and quizzes and exams are taken.

National Health Care Reform Initiative

August 2009 - Hold on to your hats. Major forces are involved in the attempt to reform (or not) our nation's health care system. One of the specific targets mentioned that would reduce costs is getting more medical record information into electronic form.

Any computer application that is used to enter and maintain sensitive information must be built to protect that information. There are too many individuals and groups that are out to hack into databases, steal information, and then use the information to take other peoples money, identities or benefits. This has spawned a new specialization in the information technology field for application security, especially when that application works on the Internet. There are security best practices for designing, programming, testing and deploying these type of systems.

Westedge personnel have experience with web application security and PCI compliance for eCommerce applications.

H1N1 Virus

July 2009 - Scientists and medical professionals are worried about the coming flu season here in North America, and they are especially worried about the H1N1 flu virus strain.

Did you know that the Lotus Notes/Domino platform, and the suite of IBM/Lotus software products (for example, Sametime, Quickr, Connections) can give your company a better ability to maintain work output levels in the event of a serious outbreak of this flu virus?

Lotus Notes has proven capabilities that have well supported detached work forces for better than a decade. Essential components like integrated e-mail, work-flow and replication processes have enabled application designers and developers to quickly build and easily deploy database applications throughout many companies... globally! Employees don't even have to see the stand-alone Lotus Notes client, as most work can be performed with a current version of a web browser program like Microsoft's Internet Explorer, Mozilla's Firefox, Apple's Safari, or Opera Software's Opera.

Staff at Westedge are certified Lotus developers and we are deeply experienced with applications involving remote workforces. Let us talk to you about dealing with a new scenario in the workplace using proven software capabilities.

Downsizing

June 2009 - As companies work to control their costs in this terrible economy, many have resorted to employee lay-offs to save money.

Most of the staff at Westedge have met with this fate sometime during their careers. While not the best experience on a personal level, we have gone through these events, we have survived, and we can help your company work through the situation.

Our experience would be of benefit to you in the planning stages. We can talk through strategies for implementing a reduction in force. We can assist with contract resources where and when needed. And, we can phase out of involvement as the situation warrants.
